December 2014 [Saturday]
remember that i said Malacca’s cafe scene is catching up? well, Malacca’s one level up now with Caffe Bene which has just invaded the shore of Malacca on Christmas eve. yes i was berry pleased and impressed.
Caffe Bene is located at the same floor as H&M at Terminal Pahlawan, a mall-cum-hotel opposite of Dataran Pahlawan.
Theng was here the past weekend and me being a lousy guide brought her to places that i would love to try XD.
And that was the first time me chauffeuring a friend around town, me, the ant who has absolutely no sense of direction but somehow managed to figure out the destinations with (and some without) the help of Waze. it’s an achievement unlocked moment! daddy would be so proud of me i tell you! haih i think i do deserve a huge pat on my back, even Theng was impressed cos she’s as clueless when it comes to direction :/.
God gave me a nice perky butt but He forgot about my sense of direction, you see, God’s great and fair.
sorry i digress.
so yeah, Caffe Bene, it doesn’t need any introduction right? the queue wasn’t bad for a Saturday.
smooth and creamy gelato on display
which comes in different serving sizes.
at first, we thought Double would be fine since we’re sharing, imagine my horror when i saw this at the counter, Double is like the size of a vase :O.
Single shall suffice.
we were given an ufo thingamajig which blinks and vibrates when our order’s ready. i guess this is no stranger too if you visited a dessert chain.
help yourself with your order, ma’am.
the weather is pleasantly gloomy and that didn’t stop us for having an icy dessert! the Oreo Bingsu consisted of layers roughly-shaved ice, crushed oreo, cream and red bean paste.
the right way to eat bingsu is, first, take pictures and #caffebenemy,
2. mix it well including the cream (or gelato).
Bingsu is like an upscale ice kacang XD. i do likey the oreo bits and the red bean paste however it can be a lil’ cloyingly sweet by the end of it. fret not, plain water is available to cleanse your palate after sweet indulgence!
we also ordered Tiramisu Waffle, a dollop of tiramisu ice cram sits atop of warm liege waffle with whipped cream sandwiched in between.
the waffle was crisp on the outside while inside remained soft and chewy, daresay one of the good waffles in Melaka. it reminds me of the waffle at Brown Pocket, Penang. the price might be a lil’ steep for a small serving like this though.
Honey Bread is also a bestseller of Caffe Bene, the fragrant lingers within the establishment and i almost succumb, almost. Theng had to stop me from ordering it cos we can’t possibly finish all! have to keep that for next visit!
we don’t have sweet tooth but did enjoy our late afternoon with bingsu and waffle!
this’s gonna be the last post of 2014 on AntzWorLd and i wish all Anteaders a berry Happy New Year! thanks for staying around for all this while, xoxo.
