yesterday was a makan spree night. had dinner at Kimberly Street (CHICKEN FEET IS YUM) with the homies, then adjourned to the (fake) Tong Pak Fu at Pulau Tikus for some after meal dessert to satiate our sweet tooth. JunSeng called to meet up, so Cele & i had our third round at The Cruises Steak House which their ambiance was really fantastic! wait staff (one lady in bob) was friendly and witty. Penang has too many of hidden gem like this! and before we called the night off, had our (Cele & i) supper, JunSeng and his gang’s after meal dessert at Humble Beginnings, Straits Quay!
Cele & i
hopefully you still remember me!
learned from my friends that, Humble Beginnings has been doing this mille crepe delivery all around Penang for three years already (you can order it here)! they delivery to your door step for FREE except to Batu Ferringhi, Balik Pulau and Teluk Kumbar, where RM 15 of delivery fee will be chanrged which is reasonable imo. beside Penang, you’ll get to trace them in Johor Bahru, KL, PJ, and as far as Singapore!
until recently they set up two physical (cosy) cafe, one at Bangsar while the other one at Straits Quay. and yesterday was the second day of opening at the latter spot. lucky us!
we ordered Peanutbutter Blueberry (top centre) and Raspberry Cheese Yogurt (right), priced at RM 9.90 each while the chiffon cake and French Vanilla were complimentary!
Twenty layers of crepes with a delightful combination of fresh cream and vanilla custard between each layer.
The topmost layer is caramelized to give it a nice smoky sugary flavour. Everything is hand-made and hand-layered; a true labour of love.
inevitably, i’ll compare this to Nadeje’s. well, the mille crepe here was not as soft as Nadeje’s, cutting it with a fork required some effort to prevent the whole slice falling apart. BUT, flavour wise, i thought Humble Beginnings’ slightly more adventurous. we all adored Peanutbutter Blueberry with Raspberry Cheese Yogurt ranking at second!
*excuse the photo quality, it’s the night where i left my camera at home and iBaby’s battery went flat half way through the night. what a bummer! pinjam-ed friend Samsung’s to snap only to realize it doesn’t has this ‘tap to focus’ thingy =.=
